Why are patients with nephrotic syndrome predisposed to hypercoaguable states?
A
- Renal losses of proteins C, S and anti-thrombin III.
- Increased platelet activation

What is the first step in management of a patient with nephrotic syndrome and DVT?
A
Anticoagulation: precedes management of nephrotic syndrome.
Anticoagulate for at least 6mo.

What is the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults?
A
Membranous glomerulonephritis

What additionally Ix should be done in patient presenting with glomerulonephritis?
A
Strong association with solid tumour e.g. colon and breast.
Perform colonoscopy, breast (i.e. mammogram)
