Nephrons Flashcards
each nephron consists of 2 main structures
renal corpuscle
renal tubule
each renal corpuscle consists of (2)
1) glomerulus
2) glomerulus capsule or brownmans capsule
glomerulus
knot of capillaries
cup shaped hollow structure
completly surrounds the glomerulus
eg a worn baseball glove
glomerular capsule or brownmans capsule
os a cup like sack at the beginning of the tubular component of a nephron
performs the first step in filtration of blood to form urine
podocytes
long branching processes called foot processes that intervine with one another and cling to its glomerulus
define renal tubule (5)
makes up the rest of the nephron 3 cm long extends from glomerous capsul coils and twists forming a haipin loop enters a collecting duct
regions of the tubule names in order from gloerular capsule
proximal convoluter capsule (pct)
nephron loop (loop of henle)
distal convoluted tubule (dct)
most nephrons are called and why
cortical nephrons - because they are located almost entirely within the cortex
collecting ducts are
receives urine from many nephrons that run downwards theough the medullary pyramids
gives them a stripped appearance
collecting ducts deliver
final urine into the calyces and renal pevis
afferent arteriole are called and it arise from
feeder vessel
cortical radiate artery
efferent arteriole receives blood
that passes thru the glomerulus
