Nephrology Flashcards
1
Q
What’s the gold standard of calculating GFR?
A
Inulin clearance
2
Q
Why is inulin clearance the gold standard for GFR?
A
It’s completely filtered by the glomerulus without any renal tubular modification.
3
Q
Creatinine clearance is different from inulin clearance how?
A
Creatinine clearance is completely filtered but also secreted by the proximal tubule.
It will overestimate GFR by 10-15 percent
4
Q
In the proximal tubule - what happens to creatinine ?
A
Creatinine is 90 percent filtered in the PCT and 10 percent secreted
