monitor for ≥12hrs

start antibiotics

A
blood cultures - before antib given
baseline FBC and CRP
LP if suspicion meningitis

antibiotic choice
A
benzylpenicillin and gentamicin

ongoing Mx
A
check CRP 24hrs and cultures 36hrs
-if both CRP < 10 and cultures negative then stop antib
check CRP on day 5 if still antib
-if CRP normal, cultures and LP negative then stop antib
