Skepticism
The philosophers wanted their thinking to be based on logic and not religion or prejudice. Key philosophers were Descartes and Hume.
Rationalism
Human logic and reason is they key to knowledge and therefore social progress
Empiricism
Basing ideas on observation and experimentation, Francis Bacon, father of the Scientific Method. Sir Isaac Newton soon followed
Deism
The religious philosophy during the neoclassical period where God was the creator of the universe/world, but did not interfere with human affairs.
Classicism
The neoclassical period adopted the greco-roman classical themes when it came to the visual arts

Diests
The deist God is a grand designer and creator, but he or she is not a close personal friend or consoler. Therefore, deists believe that prayer, ritual, and ceremony are not logical and have no value.
