Neighbourhood watch Flashcards
Why?
Home Office found that the National Reassurance Policing Programme (NRPP) initiated in 2003/4 which in eight police forces in England
The programme saw a positive impact on crime, perceptions, feelings of safety and public confidence in police
Saw statistically significant reductions
So…
A new perspective of ‘reassurance policing’ in UK
NRPP Used to develop the notion of developing a reassurance based to policing
NBP
NBP introduced in all neighbourhoods 2005-8 over a three year period that work with a wide range of people, communities and partners, to tackle and solve crime and anti-social behaviour issues that affect local communities.
Teams also include a Dedicated Ward Officer and PCSO in every ward who is the local link for the wider neighbourhood team.
This means local communities get a real say in deciding the priorities for the area in which they live, allowing the police to provide long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining a focus on reducing crime.
How do we know its effective?
The Metropolitan Police are monitoring the impact of introducing Safer Neighbourhoods teams. This includes tracking Londoners’ views on crime and policing.
