THE NEGRITOS

•Characteristics:
•Wavy to kinky hair; Flat nose;
Thick lips; Short stature,
generally under five feet; Dark
brown to sooty black skin color
They don’t have houses nor fields, only bow
and arrow and some heavy knives.
• They make hut in an instant with sticks,
grass and palm leaves
• They remain a short time in one place
hunting and after remove therefrom 4 to 5
leagues.
• They usually live and wander in the
mountains or forests or at the coast/river.
Nomads
•Spirits are very human in
their actions and desires.
Generally, there are hundreds
of stories about inexplicable
and unusual events in the
lives of the individual pygmy,
many of which are related to
plants, which support and
develop their belief in spirits
•ANITOS
THE NEGRITO CHRONICLES
They go about in bands
• Usually 25 to 30 persons
• Leads by one person, who is the
most daring and valiant, whom
the rest pay respect.
• Clothing: covers their forepart of
their body with the bark of a tree.
• They sleep where the night
overtook them
• They have no idea of religion and
has no civilized habits.
TRAVELLING

• Baskets for keeping grains
• Ornamental beads when not in

NEGRITO
FAMILY LIFE
• Linked to one another by kinship ties.
• At a very young age, Negrito boy picks up a
toy bow-and-arrow. He takes his first sharp-
shooting lessons necessary for his later life. In
early adolescence, he will be hunting to the
unfamiliar forest.
• Little girl would learn how to forage around
their habitat, learn to fish in the river and
gather edible snails.
•To the young Negrito,
these are important steps
in becoming part of the
society. They become
ready to finalize a
parentally-arranged
marriage and put up an
independent household.
FOREST GYPSIES
•Negritos burn the
death-hut if someone
dies in the band.
•They rather do it than
risk another death.
NEGRITO
CUSTOMS
•The Negritos are
monogamous and
punishes people who
will commit adultery.
•They may end their
marriage if childless.
