Need To Know Flashcards
Why are you interested in becoming a part of the patient flow team?
- I have always been passionate about gaining a career in the health care system.
- Instead of taking a gap year, I went straight on to studying the introduction to nursing course at TAFE, then I will hopefully move on to complete my diploma of nursing.
- I think that working as part of the patient flow team will assist me in extending my knowledge of the hospital procedures and frameworks, I also think that study will help me in a range of areas as a patient flow assistant.
What do you think that your key responsibilities will be as a patient flow assistant?
I think that my overall responsibility is to assist in facilitating the flow of patients through the hospital from admission to discharge.
I understand that the roles of a patient flow assistant are dynamic, one shift may be completely different to the next.
What will your duties include as a patient flow assistant?
I am likely to have responsibilities in regards to the emergency department, such as running blood or equipment between departments, or waiting on standby incase another urgent errand needs to be run.
I will provide :
- general hospital aide services
- general house keeping
- porterage of equipment
- support to the nurse unit manager, clinical unit manager and after hours nurse manager.
- I will be expected to keep up to date on health and safety procedures
What are your strengths?
I think that my strengths are being organised, quick on my feet, and having the ability to pick up routines and responsibilities quickly. This allows me to work autonomously, as well as part of a team.
- I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, I am not bothered at all by their age, race, gender, or what their background is.
- Everyone is equal to me.
- I’m good at observing changes in behaviour.
What is your biggest weakness?
I think that my biggest weakness would have to be wanting to help too much. I often want to say yes to everything and take on too many responsibilities for me to handle. I have started to focus my priorities first, and then decide if I am able to help afterwards.
What is contact transmission?
It is the most common mode of transmission.
- usually involves transmission via direct or indirect contact with blood or bodily fluids.
- one to one contact via touch, or transmission through touching a contaminated object.
What is Droplet Transmission?
It occurs when a person coughs, sneezes or talks. It can also occur during certain procedures.
- respiratory droplets transmit infection through oral or nasal or conjunctive dispersed over a distance of about 1 metre.
- can also be transmitted indirectly to mucosal surfaces. E.g. Hands
Why is infection control so important?
Healthcare associated infections is the most common complications affecting patients in hospitals.
- these infections agents are so easily transmitted through:
-contact transmission
- droplet transmission
- airborne transmission
It causes unnecessary pain and suffering for the patient and their families.
- it causes prolonged stays in the hospital, therefor disabling beds for patients in need.
Infection and prevention control is critical to reducing the risk of infectious agents transmitted through our health system.
- There are strict guidelines that we must abide by in order to keep the flow of patients consistent, such as:
The most important and effective is:
- Hand Hygiene, in which it has its own procedures like; the 5 moments of hand hygiene, and how to hand wash correctly.
- standard precautions
- transmission based precautions
