Definition and Aetiology?

A

serious illness in which tissues in the intestine (gut) become inflamed and start to die

Occurs due to immature/fragile bowels; RFs: PDA, pre-term

Combination of poor blood flow and infection

starts after enteral feeding.

A

iliary vomiting, feed intolerance

o Abdomen distension

o Blood-stained stool

o Rapid deterioration and shock
