Neck Musculature Flashcards
Levator scapulae (neck)
On each side of neck from occipital to shoulders (posterior)
Integrated function:
Eccentrically decelerate cervical flexion and contralateral cervical rotation and lateral flexion
Eccentrically decelerates scapular depression and upward rotation when the neck is stabilized
Stabilizes the cervical spine and scapulae
Sternocleidomastoid (neck)
From upper jaw/ear down to the shoulders (anterior)
Integrated function:
Eccentrically decelerates cervical extension, rotation, and lateral flexion
Isometrically stabilizes the cervical spine and acromioclavicular joint
Scalenes (neck)
From the jaw down to ribs 1&2
Integrated function:
Eccentrically decelerates cervical extension, rotation, and lateral flexion
Isometrically stabilizes the cervical spine
Longus Coli (neck)
In front of the superior spine/neck to the top ribs
Integrated function:
Eccentrically decelerate cervical extension, lateral flexion, and contralateral rotation
Isometrically stabilizes the cervical spine
Longus capitulation (neck)
Top of the occipital bone surrounding the spine into the neck
Integrated function:
Eccentrically decelerates cervical extension
Isometrically stabilizes the cervical spine
