NDB Flashcards
1
Q
What is an NDB
A
A non- directional beacon, a ground based transmitter which transmits radio energy in all directions
2
Q
What are the 4 main characteristics of an NDB
A
- A transmitter that consists of two aerial towers joined by towers
- Transmits on a single frequency in LF or MF 200kHz - 400kHz
- Occasionally uses higher frequency to minimize effects of mountainous terrain
- A known and published location.
3
Q
What is an ADF
A
Auto direction finder
4
Q
Is an adf installed in an aircraft
A
Yes
5
Q
What does it consist of
A
- reciever w/ controls
- antennae (loop + sense antenna in a single unit)
- an indicator
6
Q
What are the behaviours of a Radio Magnetic Indicator
A
- needle always points to NDB
- tail of RMI needle indicates bearing FROM NDB
- compass card rotates to indicate magnetic heading, needle indicates magnetic bearing
