NCM 116 Flashcards
Hematopoiesis
Production of blood cells
Synarthrosis
immovable joint
Ampiarthrosis
Allow limited movement
Fascia
Muscles are encased in a fibrous tissue called:
Osteogenesis
bone formation
A rigid, external immobilizing device
Cast
Application of a pulling force to a part of the body
Traction
Purpose:
reduce muscle spasms
reduce, align and immobilize fractures
reduce deformity
increase space between opposing forces
osteogenic carcinoma
most often fatal, primary malignant bone tumor
Metastatic bone tumors
more common than primary tumors
Bone becomes porous, brittle and fragile and breaks easily under stress
Osteoporosis
Softening and weakening of the long bones causes pain, tenderness and deformities caused by the bowing of bones and pathologic features
Osteomalacia
inflammation of the iris that involves the vascular layer of the eye
Uveitis
Condition characterized by increased intraocular pressure of eye and a gradual loss of vision.
Glaucoma
A diagnostic test that involves an indirect measurement of intraocular pressure recommended for person > 60
Tonometry
A diagnostic test that identifies pallor and increase in size and depth of optic cup of optic disk or changes related to glaucoma.
Fundoscopy
Drug prescribed to patient with glaucoma to facilitate outflow of aqueous humor and papillary constriction.
Chollinergic
It is the opacification (clouding) of lens of eye which interfere with light transmission to retina and ability to perceive images clearly.
Cataract
Disruption of retinal layer of eye by trauma or disease that interferes with light perception and image transmission and potentially results in blindness
Retinal detachment
Common cause of conductive hearing loss in young adults between ages of 20 and 40 years
Gradual hardening that causes foot plate of stapes to become fixed in oval window, impeding transmission of sound and causing progressive deafness
Otosclerosis
Chronic disorder characterized by recurrent attacks of vertigo, tinnitus and progressive unilateral hearing loss
Progressive hearing loss and severe vertigo causing nausea, vomiting and immobility
Meniere’s disease
occurs when bone is subjected to more kinetic energy than the bone can absorb
Fracture
degenerative joint disease. Process in which cartilage wears away leaving two surfaces of bone in contact with each other
Ostheoarthritis
