This date commemorates the Halifax Resolves. This document means that NC was in the front ranks of those who declared independence from any foreign power. NC was the first State to vote in favor of independence.

Pine tree, no specific type. Along with the production of tar, pitch, rosin, and turpentine in colonial days, the pine tree continues to be a vital part of North Carolina’s industry and economy.
