NBME Flashcards
What is the best way to ensure adequate resuscitation of a trauma patient has been performed?
URINE OUTPUT, 30 to 40 mL
What is another name of explorative laprotomy
Explorative celiotomy
What is the use of radionuclide scan with thalium and dipyridamole?
A radionuclide scan with thallium and dipyridamole is also known as a “thallium stress test” and it is a form of scintigraphy where the amount of thallium-201 detected in cardiac tissues correlates with tissue blood supply.
Exercise or dipyridamole induces widening (vasodilation) of normal coronary arteries. This produces coronary steal from areas of ischemia where arteries are already maximally dialted. Areas of infarct or ischemic tissue will remain “cold”.
It can be done pre-operatively to ask MI risk
Hidradenitis suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin disease characterized by clusters of abscesses or subcutaneous boil like infections affecting the APOCRINE sweat glands.
Eccrine sweat glands occur over most of your body and open directly on the surface of the skin. Apocrine glands develop in areas abundant in hair follicles, such as your armpits and groin, and they empty into the hair follicle just before it opens onto the skin surface.
Sebaceous glands secrete an oily or waxy matter called sebum, which lubricates and waterproofs the skin and hair of mammals.
What do you do when Glasgow coma scale is below 8?
Intubate the patient
