- The British wanted peace.
- Hitler’s complaints seemed reasonable.
- British armed forces were not ready for war.
- People admired Hitler.
- Chamberlain wanted an economically strong Germany and believed another war would destroy civilization.
What was the result of Appeasement?
- Czechoslovakia was weakened.
- British gained a year to build forces.
- The British and Russia decided war with Germany was inevitable.
- Hitler decided Britain was afraid of him.

1923, Attempt to overtake German government. Failed and adopted democratic means.

What is Appeasement?
The process of giving aggressors what they want in hopes they will be kept happy
(Germany is the aggressor, Britain was trying to keep them happy)
What is the Sudetenland?
Border areas of Czechoslovakia that has >50% German Population
(Germany demanded this land in 1938, as they were German speaking.)
What is Anschluss?
“Joining or Connection” in German, referring to the joining of Austria and Germany
(In 1938, Germany absorbed the Austrian government into theirs)
