What was the ‘25 point programme’?
A programme which laid out the beliefs of the Nazi party as well what they planned to do when they took over the Reichstag.
What was the Nazis key slogan affected by the Great Depression?
- Work and Bread
- High levels of unemployment made people desperate for money and jobs so a promise of economic security was very highly prized.
Name two other parts of the 25 point programme.
- All Germans should be united under one country
- Abolish the Treaty of Versailles
- More land

Who was president in 1932?
-Hindenburg who did not want Hitler in charge as chancellor
Who was Chancellor before Hitler?
-Von Papen
What did the July 1932 election results change?
- Nazis were now the most popular party and held a large part of the reichstag
- Due to proportional representation they now had the most seats so if Hitler wasn’t Chancellor no laws could be passed.
Why was Hitler made chancellor?
- The now huge Nazi party were blocking any proposals the other chancellors made
- Von Papen was certain they could control him if he was vice chancellor
What was the effect of the Reichstag fire?
-Destroyed quite a poignant building which Hitler blamed on communists (Nazi set up:/)
What was the Enabling Act?
- 1933
- Gave Hitler the ability to pass laws without the Reichstags influence (passed mostly due to scare mongering by the SA)
What did Hitler do to the Trade Unions?
- Banned them,all of them.
- Apart from the Nazi lead one

-14th July 1933
What was the Night of the Long Knives?
- The SA was once his private army but now held 2 million members and was quite unruly
- Hitler feared hed fully lose control and have an uprising on his hands
- 400 SA Leaders and Officers murdered
What was the impact of Hindenburg’s death?
- Hitler declared himself the Fuhrer meaning he was the President, Chancellor and Head of the Army
- The Army had to swear an oath of loyalty to him
How much did Hitler reduce unemployment?
- 1933=5 million
- 1939=Virtually zero
Why are the unemployment figures not entirely accurate?
-There was invisible unemployment with women who now had to stay home and raise families and anyone who the Nazis didn’t like
How did Hitler reduce unemployment?
- National Labour Service (Building roads,plantng forests etc)
- German Labour Front (Nazi Trade Union, strikes were banned and there were no limits on work hours)
- Rearmament (Started in secret but people were needed to make weapons an uniforms)
- Conscription
- Self Sufficiency (Rebuilding industry)
