Economic Policies-
What was the change in unemployment?
6 million to 380 thousand by July 1939.
- More job opportunities meant increased support
- However, women not included and Jews not considered citizens after 1935.

What did they do to gain military support?
1935 conscription and increase in military spending.
-Germans felt Nazis were fulfilling promise to destroy the ‘diktat’.

How were the Nazis inclusive of all classes, making the people feel they had their best interests at heart?
German Labour Front setup to protect workers with increased security and benefits.
- More productive workforce that supported the party
- Although membership not compulsory, it was hard to find work without it
Propaganda-
Dr Joseph Goebbels used many methods so everyone had access.
Give an example.
The printing of posters, using coloured images and bold headlines that were prominently placed. These displayed their ideologies.
-Cheap and easy to distribute, whilst very eye catching

Making of cheap radio sets such as the Volksempfanger for families to listen to at home.
- Cheap and easy to mass produce, with a limited frequency so it only played what the Nazis wanted.

Nazis methods helped to capture imagination of many with inclusive messages.
What did this make them feel?
People felt a part of something. Targeted all ages with children being most susceptible.
Encouraged young boys to join the Hitler Youth
-Gave them skills and prepared them for the army and war when it came
-Many Historians believe it was more successful in reinforcing opinions than changing them

What was the use of the Sturmabteilung?
A private army which provided protection at Nazi rallies and assemblies.
-Helped protect the Fuhrer and Nazi officials from attacks by opponents and organisations that wanted rid of them.

What was the significance of the Schutzstaffel, led by Heinrich Himmler?
Became most powerful organization in Nazi Germany and came to control the concentration camps.
-Permitted to do what was necessary and only answered to Hitler though Himmler so couldn’t be used against him.

How was Hitler was able to control smaller organisations in order to keep fear and power over people?
Used the police to arrest people before they had committed a crime. Drew up lists of suspects and gave them to Gestapo.
- Meant they had people listening everywhere, especially in public
- Made citizens less trusting of these services as they felt they had been corrupted

What did the creation of the Kraft Durch Freude do?
State operated leisure organisation that provided affordable Concerts, plays, libraries and holidays
- Kept population happy
- Showed they supported the people who in turn gave their support.

How were women encouraged to create a family and discouraged from drinking and makeup?
What did this do?
Women were given loans to support a family and a medal for having a lot of children.
Germany’s population increased, suggesting women supported Nazis ideals which meant a strong future for the Reich.

What did the Nazis do to education in order to teach the idea of a master race?
Jewish teachers were sacked and other teachers were forced to join Nazis Teacher Alliance. With 97% joined by 1936.
- Helped to control younger people, which in turn had an impact on their parents views
- Indoctrinating children was not a strong reason for staying in power.

How did Hitler, by using the Presidents laws after the burning of the Reichstag, keep power in his favour?
He used the incident as a reason to make the SS and SA official police forces.
-Decrees ensured he could stop all opposition by arresting opponents. Due to censorship there was no negative responses.

How did Hitler pass his proposed Enabling Act and what did this do?
Had 26 members of the SPD arrested.
-This gave him near total control which he used to destroy any opposition.

What did the Nazis do to achieve an ultimatum with the Catholic church when they realised they couldn’t control them?
They agreed they would leave the church alone as long as they didn’t interfere with political matters.
- Shows they feared losing support if they attacked the churches, by reaching agreement they kept Catholic Germans support
- Failed to fully control the church. Many priests spoke out against Nazi regime.
