Japanese forces of three air craft carriers and dozens of troop transports moved to invade port Moresby but Two US carriers met them in the Coral Sea. Japanese planes sink two minor ships, US planes sink Isolated carrier.
8 May 1942
First carrier to carrier battle, both sides launched all planes that both passed unseen in the clouds. one Japanese carrier was damaged, U.S. Lexington sunk and Yorktown carrier was damaged. both sides withdrew.
3-5 June 1942
Midway 4 Japanese carriers and 11 battle ships commanded by Admiral Yamamoto vs 3 U.S. carriers The Hornet, Enterprise and Yorktown. All 4 Japanese carriers and only Yorktown was sunk.
13-15 November 1942
Three days of fighting U.S. Marines secure the island of Guadalcanal. Japanese lost 2 cruisers and 6 destroyers.
Due to 5 brothers perishing on the USS JUNEAU navy policy concerning family member separation was reinstated.
