Nature Of Mathematics Flashcards
It is a list of things (usually numbers) that are in order.
Sequence
It is made by adding the same value each time.
Arithmetic Sequence
If we add or subtract the same number each time to make the sequence, it is an
Arithmetic Sequence
What’s the formula of Arithmetic Sequence?
a1 = an + (n - 1) d
a_{n} is the nth term / last term
a_{1} is the first term
n is the number of terms
d is the common difference
It is made by multiplying by the same value each time
Geometric Sequence
Are ordered sets of numbers that progress by multiplying or dividing each term by the same amount each time - this amount is called a common ratio.
Geometric Sequence (Geometric Progression)
What’s the formula for Geometric Progression/Sequence?
an= a1(rn-1)
an is the nth term
a₁ is the first term
n is the number of terms
r is the common ratio
Is generated from a pattern of dots that forms a triangle
Triangular Number Sequence
Is the representation of the numbers in the form of an equilateral triangle arranged in a series or sequence. These numbers are in a sequence of 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45, and so on. The numbers in the triangular pattern are represented by dots.
Triangular Number Sequence
When you multiply an integer (a “whole” number, positive, negative or zero) times itself, the resulting product is called a blank. So, 0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, and so on, are all square numbers.
Square Number
They are named after the Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, also known as Fibonacci, who introduced the sequence to Western European mathematics in his 1202 book Liber Abaci.
Fibonacci Sequence
It is found by adding the two numbers before it is together.
Fibonacci Sequence
Who discovered the Fibonacci Sequence?
Leonardo Pisano
