Natural Selection Flashcards
How do we know the population isn’t the same
Individuals in a population shows genetic variation because of their different alleles. You can get new alleles through mutation
What are the selection pressures
Predation, competition for recourses ( e.g. food, water, mates.
These affects the chances of organisms surfing and reproducing
What is needed to create make them better adapted
Desirable characteristics makes them better adapted to the selection pressures in their enviroment
With this, they will have a better chance of surviving, making them breed successfully
What’s responsible for the useful characteristics
The alleles are responsible as they are most likely to be passed down to the next generation
Are all individuals well adapted
No, some individuals will be less adapted in their environment.
This means that they will make them less able to compare and less likely to survive and reproduce
What will happen with the population overtime?
The beneficial characteristics will become more common in the population overtime
