Natural Resources Flashcards
What are renewable resources?
Resources that can be replenished easily.
What are non-renewable resources?
Limited amounts of resources that can’t be replenished easily.
Is plastic renewable or non-renewable? Why?
Plastic is non-renewable because it is made up of crude oil which is a fossil fuel.
How is oil formed?
When marine organisms die, are covered with dirt, turned into sedimentary rock, and compressed with heat and weight, oil is formed.
How is coal formed?
When plants die in swamps, get covered with mud, get decomposed into peats, heat and pressure removes elements and left only carbon, and heat and pressure converted the plants into coal, coal is formed.
What are fossil fuels?
Fossil fuels are a natural resource that is formed in the Earth’s crust from the buried remains of dead organisms.
How can you stop being so dependent on non-renewable resources and more on renewable resources? For example: Plastic…
You can limit your use of plastic and use reusable bags or paper bags. Plastic is made from crude oil which is a fossil fuel and a non-renewable source. Reusable bags and paper bags both are made from plants, which are renewable sources.
Is glass renewable or non-renewable? Why?
Glass is non-renewable because it is made from rocks and minerals which can’t be replenished that easily.
Is leather renewable or non-renewable? Why?
Leather is renewable because it is made from animals. Animals can reproduce over a short period of time.
Biodiversity?
the variety of life in the world or in a particular ecosystem
Natural resources?
Any resource that is found in the environment that humans use.
How are resources distributed?
Unevenly
Is water renewable or non-renewable? Why?
Water is renewable because it can be replenished over a short period of time. It is not a limited resource.
