What is deontological theories?
Are concerned with the doing and the action itself, rather the outcome of the action. Whatever you do you should always be good.
WHO was Thomas Aquinas?
He is a saint. His ideas can be linked to universal human rights today.
What is synderesis?
To follow the good and avoid the evil, the rule which all precepts follow.
What is telos?
The end, purpose of something (union with God).
What are the 4 tiers of law?
The eternal law
The divine law
The natural law
The human law
What is the eternal law?
Is a part of the mind of God. It says the same no matter what.
What is divine law?
The teachings of divine revelation that one sometimes found in the Bible.
What is natural law?
Natural law allows us to see the eternal law through the application of human reason.
What is human law?
Is our response to these messages from God. Human law is only proper law if it is good.
What are the five primary precepts?
Preservation of life
Reproduction
Educating the young
Living in society
Worshipping God
What is a primary precept?
The most important rules in life.
What is secondary precepts?
The laws which follow from primary precepts.
What is the key precept?
Do good and avoid evil.
What is a teleological theories?
Justifies actions by their outcomes. If a good thing happens from your action, even if your action might have been controversial, then it was acceptable.
What is natural law?
Is a deontological theory based on behaviour that given laws or moral rules that exist independently of human societies and systems.
