A natural process which could cause death, injury or disruption to humans, or destroy property and possessions.
What is a natural disaster?
A natural hazard that has actually happened.
If an avalanche occurs in Antarctica or a drought in a desert, is this a natural hazard?
No. To be called natural hazards these events must affect humans.
What are the two kinds of natural hazards?
Geological,
Meteorological.
What are geological hazards?
Hazards caused by land and tectonic processes.
What are meteorological hazards?
Hazards caused by weather and climate.
What are the factors that affect the hazard risk?
Vulnerability,
Capacity to cope,
Nature of natural hazards.
What is the hazard risk?
The probability that a natural hazard will occur.
