a sudden event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society or causes human, material and economic or environmental loses that exceed the communities or society’s stability to cope using its own resources

naturally occurring physical phenomena cuased by either a rapid or slow onset events.

what are example of geophysical?
earthquakes, tsunamis land slide and volcanic activity
what are examples of hydrological?
flood or avalanches
what are examples of climatological?
extreme temperatures, droughts and floods

cyclones, storms or wave surges
what are examples of Biological?
dieases or epidemics and insect and animals plagues
what is a man made disaster?
technological or man made harzards are caused by humans and occur closer to where humans live
what are environmental man made disaster?
degradtion and pollution
what are examples of Technological or man-made hazards?
complex emergencies / conflicts, famine, displaced populations, industrial accidents and transport accidents.
how does the UN classify a disaster?
a report of 10 or more people killed
a report of 100 people affected
a declaration of a state of emergency by the relevant government
a request by the national government for international assistance.
