Natural disasters Flashcards
What are the different types of layers of the earth?
Inner core, Outer core, Mantle and Crust
What is the inner core made of?
It is made up of metals but mostly iron and nickel
What is the outer core made of?
It is made of liquid iron and nickel
What is the mantle made up of?
It is made of molten rock.
What is the crust made of?
It is made of basalt and granite
What are plate boundries?
They are the boundry between two tectonic plates
What are the hazards at boundries?
There are earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic erruptions.
How are earthquakes formed?
It is formed by sudden movement within the faults in the Earth
How are tsunamis formed?
They can be formed by earthquakes at destructive plate boundries
How are volcanos formed?
When one tectonic plate moves under another.
What LIC country has been affected by volcanoes?
Indonesia
What hIC country has been affected by volcanoes?
Japan
How is Japan warned about volcanoes?
Messages on mobiles, seisometers, news articles on phones or paper
How is Indonesia warned about volcanoes?
Maybe by newspapers, people shouting
How are people prepared for earthquakes?

What is used for protection of earthquakes?
Rubber shock absorbers, steel frames, open areas outside, lightweight roofs
What do rubber shock absorbers do?
To absorb Earth’s tremors
What are steel frames for?
Sway during Earth movements.
How do open areas outside help earthquakes?
So people can assemble during evacuation
What are lightweight roofs for?
To prevent injuries from heavy roofs.
