What are floods?
A
A flood is an overflow of large amounts of water onto land that is normally dry.

How do flash floods occur?
A
1) caused by exceptionally heavy rainfall
2) lack of infiltration due to lack of vegetation/due to blockage in sewage system
3) too much surface run-off

How do river floods occur?
A
- Caused by continuous heavy rainfall/snowmelt during spring or dam failure
- rapid rise in water levels of rivers due to large amounts of water
- water overflows banks

A
It is when areas become drier than normal for a long period of time.
