revealed theology
type of theology that provides arguments for the existence of God based on what has been revealed to us (revelation). these revelations come primarily from scripture or religious experience.
natural theology
type of theology that provides arguments for existence of God based on reason and ordinary human experience of nature.
reason
power of the mind to think, understand, and form judgements logically
sensus divinitatis (sense of the divine)
term first used by French Protestant reformer John Calvin to describe a human’s ability to sense God.
imago dei
literally means ‘image of God’
faith
having a strong belief in the doctrines of a religion based on spiritual connection rather than proof.
God’s grace
to have ‘God’s Grace’ is to have a share in the divine life. it is a supernatural gift that God gives humanity.
conscience
a person’s moral sense of right and wrong, vowed as acting as a guide to one’s behaviour.
numinous
having a strong religious or spiritual quality; indicating or suggesting the presence of a divinity.
bible
Christian scriptures, consisting of the Old and New Testaments
tradition
transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation. Catholic doctrine is part of the tradition of the Church and is believed to have divine authority.
fideism
the doctrine that knowledge depends on faith or revelation.

catechism promulgated for the Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II in 1992. It sums up, in book form, the beliefs of the Catholic faithful.
