NATO was formed to combat the spread of communism, and the warsaw pact was formed to be an answer to the the nato alliance, and to keep the eastern block countires in line since most had soviet troops in their countries.

24

A

The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies, the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc, which began following World War II.

Start date: 1947
End date: 3 December 1989

During 1989 and 1990, the Berlin Wall came down, borders opened, and free elections ousted Communist regimes everywhere in eastern Europe. In late 1991 the Soviet Union itself dissolved into its component republics. With stunning speed, the Iron Curtain was lifted and the Cold War came to an end.
