A vast area of grassland
Where does the grassland stretch from?
From the Appalachian Mountains in the East to the Rocky Mountains in the West, and from the Canadian border in the north to the Mexican border in the south
When did the Plain Indians/Native Americans live in America?

How many tribes were there living in the American West?
Over 30
What were the three main reasons it was so difficult to live on the Plains?
Food, climate and resources?
Why was climate such a problem on the plains?
Because the climate was very extreme - hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Severe droughts and snow, tornadoes, storms etc
Why was food such a problem on the Plains?
Because there were few sources of food, only the buffalo.
Why was resources such a problem on the Plains?
Because there were no trees for wood for heating, cooking or shelter and there was very little water
Why did Indians not waste resources?
Because they had a respect for nature and only took what they needed from the land
