What is the CQC?
Care Quality Commission- The regulator for Health Care
What does the CQC do?
•Registers and licenses care services to ensure standards are met
•Carries out inspections to monitor that care continues to meet standards
•Publishes inspection reports that rate care settings from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’
•Can issue warning notices and fines if standards are not met
What is NICE?
National Institute for Health and Social Care
What does NICE do?
•Assesses new drugs and treatments as they become available
•Provides evidence-based guidelines on how particular conditions should be treated
•Provides info services for those providing Health and Social Care
•Improves outcomes
What is the EHRC?
Equality and Human Rights Commission- has a website that provides info, advice and guidelines about discrimination
What does the EHRC do?
•Has a website that provides info advice and guidelines about discrimination
•Provides definition of different types of discrimination
•Provides advice on whether what happened was against the Equality law
•Advice on how to make a discrimination complaint and how to take cases to court
•Provides contact details for a telephone support service
What does OFSTED do?
Carries out inspections that rate child care settings and schools from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’
They inspect:
•Effectiveness of leadership and management
•Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
•Personal development, behaviour and welfare (safeguarding)
•Outcomes for children and learners
What does the Care Certificate do?
• Sets out the minimum standards to be covered as part of the induction programme for
anyone new to care.
• It is for ‘unregulated’ job roles such as social care assistants.
• Enables care workers to provide safe and high quality care and support.
• Sets out 15 standards and care workers are assessed against these standards.
