This was introduced as a long-term initiative designed to make a significant difference to the health and achievement of children and young people
How is the National Healthy Schools Program linked to PE in schools?
It is closely linked to PE in schools as it shares many of the aims and objectives of the PE curriculum and is complimentary to it
What is the intention of the National Healthy Schools Program?
The intention is that through this program young people will be able to make informed health and life choices in order to reach their full potential, and through this create happier, healthier children who do better in learning and in life

There is a need for a whole-school approach
What does a whole-school approach involve?
Working with children and young people, parents, school staff and the whole school community so that these developments and improvements are successfully achieved
What is this program based on?
A whole-school approach to physical and emotional wellbeing and is focused on four core themes
What are the four core themes of the National Healthy Schools Program?
Personal, social and health education (PSHE); healthy eating; physical activity; and emotional health and wellbeing
What does PSHE incorporate?
Sex and relationship eduction and drug education
What does PSHE contribute to?
The Every Child Matters outcomes for children and young people of being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and economic wellbeing
What does PSHE provide?
Provides children and young people with knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their lives
What does healthy eating contribute to?
The Every Child Matters outcomes for children and young people
What does healthy eating give children and young people?
It gives them confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding to make healthy food choices

Healthy and nutritious food and drink are available across the school day
