nastic notes Flashcards
1
Q
what is a nastic responce
A
growth responses of plants in response to a change in the intensity of an environmental stimulus, not the direction.
2
Q
how do we name nastic responces
A
We do not use the words positive or negative because the growth responses are not directional. Instead, identify the environmental factor and place that in front of the word ‘nasty’. For example:
· The opening and closing of flowers when the sun rises and sets is called a photonastic response
· The closing up of Mimosa leaves in response to touch is a thigmonastic response
3
Q
what are examples of thigmonasty
A
- venus fly trap
- mimosa leaves
