A
“Binary oppositions” is how best to remember this theory. Character contrasts drive the narrative and thicken the story, these include: Good vs Evil, Man vs Nature, Humanity vs Technology and Peace vs War.

A
Barthes argues that using “enigma”, producers can create mystery in a narrative. This can be anything that causes confusion to the audience.

A
After studying folk tales, Propp believe that the same events occur in most narratives. These events are called “narratemes” which control the outcome of the story.
