The narrative structure, whilst present, has been taken apart and rearranged with very little explanation as to which part of the narrative we are in.
How does the subversion of Todorov’s narrative emphasise atmospheric elements of the film?
The disjointed, hazy feeling of the narrative helps to increase the dreamlike atmosphere of the film, at some points it may become too confusing/overwhelming for the viewer and become unpleasant or nightmarish.
