Nano Delivery Flashcards
Put in order the size of nanoparticles starting from smallest to biggest.
water < glucose < antibody < virus < bacteria < cancer cell < period < tennis ball
How can you make sure that a cancer drug only targets tumor cells and normal cells? Describe the mechanism.
You can link a drug with a polymer so that it only leaks out of blood vessels and into tumor cells (since tumor blood vessels are leakier) and it doesn’t leak out of blood vessels in normal cells.
What happens as you increase the particle size?
You get less uptake into cell.
Describe settling velocities.
Larger particles settle more easily. Smaller particles don’t settle as easily.
Describe brownian movement with respect to particle size.
Smaller particles have more brownian movement that larger particles.
Describe surface molecules on particles and solubility with respect to particle size.
As particle size is bigger, you have less surface area and less solubility.
What are the advantages of paclitaxel bound to albumin?
No solvent toxicity (no need of corticosteroids and anti-histamines before dosing), shorter infusion time, better tolerability, and better response rate.
Describe ways in which nanotechnology for drugs improves gene delivery.
- Improves cellular permeation and retention
- Improves cellular uptake
- Targeting to cells and organelles
- Prolonged drug release
- Stimuli sensitive drug release
What are some examples of delivery systems?
Albumin, Chitosan , PEG (hydrophilic molecule so not easily recognized and longer half life), PAMA dendrimer, PLGA polymer
