What is Squad 51? What is it’s purpose?

A

It is a small two man responsce unit that began Dec. 3, 2018. It is designed to help relieve some of the burnden on lager responding fire units, allowing them to respond in the place of larger units when medical calls come out. This allows the larger units to remain in their service areas.

What is the ringing of the last bell?

A

This is a 200 year old tradition that hails back to the use of bells in the fire service. A bell was used to make the beginning of the day, and was used to call fire firghters into action when their services were needed. A final bell was tolled when the fire was put out. Symbolically, the ringing of the last bell is done at funerals of fire fighters who have fallen in the line of duty.
