Q

ionic ionic compounds with transition metals and non metals

A

must write a roman numeral in brackets after the non metal to indicate the charge of the transition metal
shorten non metal and change ending to “ide”

Q

ionic compounds with polyatomic ions

hint: oxygen thing

A

radicals get their names from the number of oxygens the have compared to the most common one (the radical ending in “ate”)
if it has one less oxygen ending turns to “ite”
if two less oxygen add a prefix of “hypo” and change ending to “ite”
if one more oxygen add prefix “per” and ending stays “ate”

Q

covalent compounds

A

all non metals
used prefixes to indicate how many of each atom there is
what only one atom in the FIRST element DONT use the prefix mono
