NAMING ACIDS (Ch. 2.8) Flashcards
Naming Acids
Contain H+ and an anion
BINARY ACIDS
- its anion ends in “_ide”
ex. Hydro____ic acid
Examples of Binary Acids:
- HCl
- HBr
- H2S
- Hydrochloric acid
- Hydrobromic acid
- Hydrosulfuric acid
OXYACIDS
- its anion ends in “_ate” or “_ite”
OXYACIDS:
If the anion ends in “_ate,” the acid ends in:
“_ic acid”
OXYACIDS:
If the anion ends in “_ite,” the acid ends in:
“_ous acid”
