What are corrugations?
Vertical or longitudinal lines/ ridges across the nail
what is Cyanosis?
Blue or purple nail beds that show through the nail plate
What are fissures?
Cracks in the calluses or dehydrated skin around the nail
What is a hematoma?
Bruise under the nail plate
What is leukonychia?
White spots in the nail plate due to damage
What is onychomalacia?
Eggshell nails/ very soft and thin nails with the free edge curving down
What is Onychophagy?
Nail biting
What is Pterygium?
An excessive overgrowth of skin on the nail plate
What is a bacterial infection? -(pseudomonas aeruginosa)
Contagious infection- Green, yellow or brown spot where a nail or artificial nail has lifted or separated.
What is fungus? And what are the three types?
Fungus is a general term for parasite. The three types of fungus are ringworm, yeast and mild fungi
What are the five symptoms of fungus?
- Nail separation
- discolouration
- thickening or brittleness
- debris
- odour
What is onychia?
Contagious disease that causes Inflammation of the nail bed
What is onychomycosis?
Long yellow lines within the nail caused by fungus
