Beau’s Lines
Deep grove lines that run from side to side on the fingernail or toenail (May look like ridges on the nail plate)
Bruised Nails
Dark purplish spots, usually due to physical injury
Discolored Nails
Nails turn a variety of colors; May indicate surface staining, systematic disorder, or poor blood circulation.
Eggshell Nails
Noticeably thin, white plates, more flexible than normal; usually caused by improper diet, internal disease, filing with an abrasive (over filing)
Hang Nails
Damaged skin attached to living skin around the nail plate (often on the eponychium) becomes split or torn
Infected Finger
Redness, pain, swelling or pus; refer to a physician
Leukonychia
white spots on nail plate
Leuko = white
Melanonychia
Darkening on nails
Nail psoriasis
Nail surface pitting, roughness, onycholysis, and bed discoloration
Nail pterygium
Abnormal stretching of the skin around the nail plate; from serious injury or allergic reaction
onychophagy
bitten nails
onychorrhexis
abnormal surface roughness on the nail plate
Pincer nails
dramatically increased nail curvature
pictured nail
sharp bend in one corner of the nail plate creating increased curvature
Ridged nails
length wise grooves in the plate (seen in normal aging)
