Pyogenic granuloma
rapidly growing and contagious bacteria that can cause an infection. Seen in the early stages as a yellow-green spat that becomes darker in its advanced stage, changing from yellow to green to brown to black
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
bacterial inflammation of the tissues around the nail plate
Paronychia
is an inflammation of the matrix and shedding of the nail caused by infection and injury
Onychosis
fungal infection of the nail plate
Onychomycosis
separation and falling off of a nail plate from the nail ves in either fingernails or toenails
Onychomadesis
ingrown nails on either hands or feet, wherein the nail grows into the sides of the tissue around the nail
Onychocryptosis
separation of the nail plate and bed often due to injury or allergic reaction
Onycholysis
damage to the capillaries under the nail, gives the appearance of a lengthwise small splinter underneath the nail plate
Splinter hemorrhage
lengthwise grooves in the plate, often mistaken for ridges, seen in aging
Ridged nail
a highly curved nail plate often lead to ingrowns
Plicatured nail
also known as trumpet nail, a form of dramatically increased nail curvature of the free edge
Pincer nail
abnormal split or brittle nails appearing as surface roughness on the nail plate
Onychorrhexis
bitten nails, frequent manicures and proper care of the hands can often help to overcome the habit
Onychophagy
abnormal stretching of the eponychium or hyponychium around the nail plate
Nail pterygium
the nail plate may appear as if it has been filed with a coarse abrasive, of the free edge may be ragged or both
Nail psoriasis
significant darkening of the fingernails or toenails caused by increased pigment cells
Melanonychia
whitish spots of discoloration of the nails
Leukonychia
visible redness, pain, swelling, broken skin or pus
Infected finger
noticeably thin, white nail plate is more flexible than normal; usually caused by improper diet , hereditary, internal disease, medication, or by overfilling with an abrasive
Eggshell nail
surface staining, a systemic disorder, or poor blood circulation
Discolored nail
dark, purplish spots, usually due to a small injury to the nail bed
Bruised nail bed
depressions running across the width of the nail plate
