What is koilonychia?
Spoon shaped nails.
What is onycholysis?
Detachment of the nail from the nailbed.
What are Beau’s lines?
Transverse furrows from temporary arrest of nail growth at times of biological stress.
What are Mee’s lines?
Single white transverse bands.
What are Muehrcke’s lines?
Paired white parallel transverse bands without furrowing.
What are Terry’s nails?
Proximal portion of the nail is white/pink and nail tip is red/brown.
What is pitting?
Pin-prick like dips in the nails.
What are splinter haemorrhages?
fine, longitudinal haemorrhagic streaks under the nails.
What is clubbing?
Increased curvature in all directions and loss of angle between the nail and nail fold.
What is paronychia?
This is a chronic, red , inflamed, painful, swollen nail.
What is leuconychia?
Whitening of the nails.
What can clubbing be caused by in a CV exam?
Infective endocarditis
Cyanotic heart disease
What can splinter haemorrhages be caused by in CV exam?
Infective endocarditis Trauma Sepsis RA Vasculitis
What can koilinychia be caused by in CV exam?
Iron deficiency anaemia
