N5 Graphic Communication Flashcards
When do you use a pie chart?
When the data is percentages or parts of a whole.
When do you use a line graph?
When the data shows a trend over a period of time.
When do you use a bar chart?
When you want to highlight specific figures or compare two things, don’t use them if there would be too many bars.

What are the advantages of CAD?
The advantages of CAD are:
1. It is easy to store and retrieve files.
2. It is easy to edit and modify drawings or models.
3. Use of the CAD library means quick access to standardized models or drawings and reduces the need to redraw or remodel objects.
4. Drawings can be very large without being impractical as they would be on paper.
What are the disadvantages of CAD?
The disadvantages of CAD are:
1. High hardware and software costs.
2. Additional update and maintenance costs.
3. Time and cost of training staff.
4. Potential IT problems such as crashes or viruses.
What does the 2D CAD tool zoom do?
Enlarges the view of the screen so smaller details become bigger.
What does the 2D CAD tool orient do?
Allows 3D movement around a component or assembly.
What is the name of the box of information on every orthographic?
Title block.
What information can the title block contain?
Some are:
1. Scale
2. Date
3. Product Name
4. Unit of measurement
5. Drawing or page number
What are the advantages of 3D CAD rendering?
Some advantages are:
1. Model looks more realistic.
2. Models can have materials.
3. Shadows and highlights are visible.
4. Easier for non-technical viewers to understand.
These all help clients or colleagues understand the product.
What do the cutting plane arrows point towards?
The kept section.
What should exploded views have?
Exploded view must have:
1. All components exploded along their correct plane/axis.
2. A uniform gap between all components.
3. All components in sequence.
4. All components being visible.
What are the input devices for creating digital files of manual work?
They are a scanner, digital camera, and graphics tablet.
When talking about alignment what must you mention?
The axis and possibly type, for example: Left vertical.
When talking about contrast or unity what must you mention?
Both elements and their features.
Are circles and ellipses the same thing in 2D CAD tools?
No, there is a circle, an ellipse, and an arc.
What can lines do?
Lines can:
1. Connect or divide elements on a spread.
2. Emphasise elements by pointing or underlining them.
3. Lead the reader’s eye across a page.
