Mytosis Flashcards
What’s the 2 different types of cells division
Mitosis and meiosis
Mitosis
cell division in which a diploid body cell copies itself and finally divides into two identical diploid daughter cells .
Mitosis function
Asexual reproduction
Repair of tissues
Cell replacement
Growth
Meiosis
single cell divides twice to form four haploid daughter cells. These cells are the gametes – sperms in males and egg in females.
Meiosis function
Produce egg and sperm cells for sexual reproduction
Cell cycle
Cell growth
Temporary cell resting period or the cell stops dividing
DNA synthesis the chromosomes are now double stranded
Further growth occurs and the
DNA is checked for errors
The cytoplasm separates - two cells are formed
Mitosis
Mitosis process
The cell begins to divide
The DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome
The nuclear membrane breaks down. The chromosomes line up across the centre of the cell
One set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell and the nucleus divides
The cytoplasm and cell membranes divide to form two identical cells
