- only hope remained in the box
Persephone, Demeter and Hades
- Demeter is the god of harvest
- Persephone is her daughter
- Hades Kidnaps Persephone
- Demeter makes Earth barren to punish the world
- Persephone spends 6 months in under world
Cupid and Psyche
- falls in love and marry
- Psyche is not allowed to see Cupid
- Psyche drips wax on him by accident
- Psyche was punished and sent away but eventually allowed to return to Cupid
Theseus Slays the Minotaur
-Theseus pulls the sword from a stone to prove he’s the king’s son
- Theseus volunteers to fight the Minotaur
- Minotaur is a beast who lives in the labyrinth
- Ariadne helps him
- Theseus kills the Minotaur
- Forgets to raise white sail and his dad dies

- tries to escape King Mino’s labyrinth
- constructed wings made of feathers and wax
- Daedalus warns Icarus not to flight to close to sun

- Echo is a nymph who angered Hera

- Held by heel so is vulnerable in heel
- Paris shoots him in the heel during the Trojan War
Orpheus and Eurydice
- Orpheus is the son of Apollo and Calliope
- ventured down to the kingdom of the dead to retrieve his wife Eurydice
- Hades agreed to free his wife
- he could not look back at his wife on the walk back to earth
- Orpheus looked back at her and lost his wife forever

- Tantalus abused privilege
- Zeus punishes him by sending him to Hades
- not allowed to reach food and water that surrounds him
Sisyphus
- Known for being devious and tricky with gods
- punished
- forced to roll a giant boulder up a hill every day for eternity
Athena and Archahne
- Archahne is skilled
- Athena thinks she is better
- has weaving competitions
- Archahne mocks gods
- Athena turns her into a spider able to spin thread forever
12 Labors of Hercules
- Hercules was one of Zeuses children
- Hera caused him to go mad and kill his wife and children
- For his sins, he must complete 12 labors
- some of his labors are defeating the Nemean Lion, killing Hydra, and cleaning a giant stable every single day
