Myopia Control Flashcards
In the CREAM study, how many loci were associated with myopia?
24 loci
If having the loci for myopia, how much may this increase your chance of getting myopia?
10 fold
If you spend more time outdoors, would that increase or decrease the progression of myopia?
Time outdoors would decrease the progression of myopia
What are the two proposed mechanisms of myopia progression? Explain them.
1) Due to peripheral defocus. When wearing spectacles, there is a hyperopic defocus in the periphery that causes the eye to want to elongate causing axial myopia.
2) Due to a lag of accommodation, we are constantly in hyperopic defocus which causes the eye to want to elongate
3 pharmacological treatments to treat myopia
Atropine
Pirenzepine
7-methylxanthine
What is the ONLY FDA approved treatment for myopia?
Cooper vision MiSight control contact lens
Explain DIMS technology and what it stands for .
Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments
Central optical zone is 9 mm
Annular multifocal zone with segments of +3.50 power.

How much did DIMS technology slow the progression of myopia compared to SV?
52%
Using DIMS, how much axial elongation was shorter than using single vision?
62%
