Myology of the elbow and forearm Flashcards
Origin of biceps brachii?
Long head: Supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Short head: Apex of coracoid process of scapula
Insertion of biceps brachii?
Two bellies fuse into a common tendon and inserts into posterior part of radial tuberosity
Action of biceps brachii?
Flexes and supinates forearm
Innervation of biceps brachii?
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5-C6)
Origin of triceps brachii?
Long head: Infraglenoid tubercle of scapula and adjacent glenoid labrum
Lateral head: Posterior part of the humerus (superior and lateral to spiral groove)
Medial head: posterior part of humerus (inferior and medial to spiral groove)
Insertion of triceps brachii?
Posterior surface olecranon of ulna and adjacent deep fascia of forearm
Action of triceps brachii?
Extensor of forearm
Innervation of triceps brachii?
Radial nerve (C6-C8)
Origin of brachialis?
Distal 2/3’s of the humerus and adjacent septa
Insertion of brachialis?
Inferior part of the coronoid process and ulnar tuberosity
Action of brachialis?
Main flexor of the elbow
Innervation of brachialis?
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5-C6)
Origin of brachioradialis?
Upper 2/3’s anterior lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus and adjacent septum
Insertion of brachioradialis?
Lateral surface of the radius
Action of brachioradialis?
Flexes the forearm at mid flexion
Innervation of brachioradialis?
Radial nerve (C5-C6)
Origin of the anconeus?
Posterior surface of the lateral epicondyle of humerus
Insertion of anconeus?
Lateral surface of the olecranon and posterior surface of the ulna
Action of anconeus?
Assists the triceps in elbow extension
Innervation of anconeus?
Radial nerve (C7-C8)
Origin of the supinator?
Lateral epicondyle of the humerus, radial collateral ligament, radial annular ligament
Insertion of the supinator?
Lateral, posterior, and anterior surface of the upper third of radius
Action of the supinator?
Supinates the forearm
Innervation of the supinator?
Posterior interosseous branch of the radial nerve (C5-C6)
