Myer Interview Questions Flashcards
Tell me about yourself
I currently work from home as a Real Estate agent at Sydwest Property Group, I’ve been employed there for a year and a half now. I am the social media manager and also do administrative work like managing emails, money transactions and overall business operations within the company from organising stock and inventory such as files, keys, signage and more items along those lines. From time to time I would assist during field work like open homes. I am also in my final year of study doing a Bachelor of Media and Communications at Macquarie University, which I do full time online.
Why would you be the best fit for this job? Why do you want to work at Myer?
I am a regular Myer customer and always feel welcomed and comfortable, I live fairly close to Penrith and I understand you are looking for someone who can be available during the Christmas period from November to January. I expect to finish my uni semester at the end of this month and I am readily available across a full 7 day week and flexible during the three months and beyond. I understand how stressful and busy the Christmas period is, and believe my experience in efficiently and accurately meeting KPIs could serve as an effective benefit in this position. I also just love Christmas in general. It is such a happy time of the year and would love helping people. I enjoy taking initiative which i believe would be really beneficial in a position where it requires building meaningful relationships with customers. With experience acquired through completing multiple daily tasks and developed knowledge of retrieving and organising stock, I believe these aspects directly apply to selecting, packing and dispatching orders in a fast paced environment, which is required as an Online Fulfilment Team member. I understand you are looking for someone who can prioritise and is an organised multi-talker who is passionate about customer service. As a driven and enthusiastic individual, i believe i can definitely deliver and achieve those goals.
A customer enters the store in hopes of finding a gift for their teenage niece, how would you assist the customer in finding the right gift? What sort of gift would you recommend someone if they asked you?
I would ask them what the interests are of the person they are buying for, sports, fashion, beauty, any brands they usually use or are interested in. I would also check what is currently popular, any best sellers and what is currently in trend. By working out what their interests are, I would tailor the suggestions to the customer. Usually you can’t go wrong with a good perfume.
What do you know about Myer? What are Myers own brands?
I am aware Myer started in Melbourne during the 1900s and following 1945, the brand epitomised prosperity of post-war Australia providing public, social and cultural service to communities. Since then, the brand has partaken in various charitable events, maintaining strong and meaningful relationships with their local communities. They also have exclusive brands such as Tokito, Miss Shop, Piper, Levis and Maddox, to name a few and also work with leading beauty and fashion brands to cater for customers.
What do you like about retail?
As I have seen first hand in Myer, I believe that retail is a leading method in building meaningful relationships and engaging with customers. I like how retail provides a positive and helpful experience for customers, and would love to be apart of providing customer service that is tailored to the consumer. Especially during the Christmas period, helping customers find the perfect gift is extremely rewarding and creates a memorable shopping experience.
What does Christmas and gift giving mean to you? What do you like most about Christmas?
Christmas is a wonderful time to spend with family and friends, and spoil your loved ones with gifts they deserve. I love gift giving - especially when you buy the most thoughtful present for someone. Christmas allows you to show others how grateful and appreciative you are to have them in your life. My favourite part about Christmas is spending time with my family and seeing their reactions when they open gifts they did not expect.
Which Christmas tree decoration would you be?
If I was a Christmas tree decoration, I would be Christmas lights. I have been told that I am a bright person, who livens up the party and is spontaneous and warm. To me, that description encapsulates Christmas lights, and they are one of my favourite parts about Christmas in general. A Christmas tree would be incomplete without Christmas lights.
Tell us about your experience working in retail.
Though I do have limited experience working in retail, I have a number of transferrable skills that would apply to this position. Over the year-and-a-half working in real estate, I have assisted in sales during open homes and providing customer service to clients. I have also communicated with clients while on university placement. I have several skills gained from my real estate experience and university degree that will be extremely beneficial in working in retail. I am eager to learn and believe this position will further my sales experience.
What does customer service mean to you? Give us an example of your customer service experience?
I believe customer service means exceeding customer expectations and going out of your way to help people solve their problems, not only during a purchase but also before and after. While working as a real estate agent, I provided exceptional customer service to potential buyers and tenants. In one instance, a new client approached the agency looking to rent an apartment. They were moving for the first time and were unfamiliar with the process. The client was uncertain with the key characteristics of the apartment. I took the time to professionally liase with the client and to understand what their needs are. We discussed location, budget, accessibility, and facilities they were interested in, such as a gym. I also took the time to explain the renting process to the client to gain their trust and ease any concerns. By taking the time to understand the client’s needs and gain their trust, I was able to assist with finding the perfect apartment to suit the client. The client was confident in the renting process, and extremely happy we found an apartment that met everything they were looking for. By providing excellent customer service, the client recommended our agency to several friends and family!
What are your strengths?
As a full time uni student and part time real estate agent, I have strong multi tasking skills and I am able to stay organised by prioritising tasks. Additionally, I have excellent oral and written communication skills, time management skills, team work and computer skills developed from my employment and education. I believe I can apply these strengths when fulfilling tasks such as selecting, packing and dispatching orders, and produce amazing results in doing so.
What are your weaknesses?
I have high expectations of myself, and can sometimes be overly critical. I want to make sure the work I produce is my best and of high quality. Previously, receiving a low result would cause me to be self-critical and harsh on myself. Throughout university and my employment, I have learned to use those opportunities to improve myself and my work. I have started to use those moments as learning opportunities rather than being upset. Another weakness is that I get impatient when tasks go beyond their deadline. From university, I have become uncomfortable when tasks are not completed on time. To avoid this, I have learned to prioritise amongst tasks that need to be done, and actively worked on changing my reactions so I am being positive and motivational, further fostering efficiency.
What motivates you?
I am extremely motivated to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Setting deadlines, and then prioritising jobs to complete tasks and reach those deadlines, instils a great feeling of accomplishment. I find immense joy in creating a plan of action or checklist to complete tasks and major projects.
What are your long-term career goals?
I’m really interested and eager to work in retail and customer service with a motivated and uplifting company like Myer. I also have a passion for media and communications and would love to incorporate my tertiary education within retail and customer service in the longterm. I’m always working to improve my skills, such as building leadership skills to eventually take on managerial responsibilities.
Any final remark or where can you see yourself…
I can definitely see myself delivering exceptional customer service working as a team member in Myer’s online fulfilment department, developing my skills for the business while ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently through meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). I believe I would be a great fit to the company and the position. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you.
Myer activity picking:
Tell us what route you will take
I would first check if any items are on the second level and retrieve them first, considering I will need to return to level one. I will choose the mens tie, denim jacket and perfume first, also making sure to check if the denim jacket is for women or men and retrieve it accordingly. I have ordered these items depending on which are the furthest way from the escalator going down. Then in the same method, I would make my way down to the first level and collect the kids pyjamas, bedsheet, fry pan, 8 piece dinner set and lastly the red pair of ladies shoes. The first few items are those which are furthest away from the point i initially started at and closest to when i would get off the escalator from Level 2. I believe this is the most effective and efficient way to retrieve all items.
