My Bike Flashcards
Balanced Forces
When two forces acting on an object are equal in size but act in opposite directions.
Acceleration
Is the measurement of change in an object’s velocity.
Attract
Drawn together by physical force
Distance
The space between to things
Deceleration
To slow down the velocity/speed.
Energy
The capacity of a physical system to do work.
Electrostatic Force
The forces between particles caused by their electric charges.
Force
Strength or power on an object
Force Diagram
a simplified drawing showing the appearance, structure, or workings of something
Force Field
A region of space (a vector field) in which a force operates; contains lines of force; a field of force
Friction Force
The rubbing of one object or surface against another.
Gradient
an inclined part of a road or railway; a slope
Gravity
The natural attraction between physical bodies, especially when one of the bodies is a celestial body, such as the earth
Lubricant
a substance, such as oil or grease, used for minimizing friction
Magnetism
The force between magnets
Mass
Grams
Newton
used when measuring force
North pole
the pole of a magnet that seeks the earth’s north magnetic pole.
Reaction time
the interval between stimulation and response
Repel
to resist effectively
S.L units
Seven different units. temperature, time, length, mass, luminous intensity, amount of substance and electric current
South pole
the pole of a magnet that seeks the earth’s south magnetic pole.
Speed
Metres per second
Ticker time
When you work out the speed of an object you need to know how far it goes in a certain time. The distance is fairly easy to find, use a ruler, but if the object is moving quickly the time it takes will be hard to measure. The ticker timer makes dots on a paper tape every fiftieth of a second.
