My bike Flashcards
Acceleration
change in velocity/time
force
anything that causes a change
energy
ability to do work
attract
to pull (something) to or toward something else.
magnetism
the property of attracting certain metals
distance
the amount of space between places or something
mass
a usually large amount of a substance that has no particular shape
velocity
quickness of motion
deceleration
to move slower
force field
an area in which a particular force (such as magnetism) exists and can be felt — often used figuratively
gravity
the natural force that tends to cause physical things to move towards each other : the force that causes things to fall towards the Earth
lubricant
a substance (such as grease or oil) that causes something (such as a machine part) to be slippery and to move more smoothly
friction force
is the force exerted on the surface by another when there is no motion between the two surfaces.
North Pole
each of the two opposite points on the surface of a magnet at which magnetic forces are strongest.
South Pole
each of the two opposite points on the surface of a magnet at which magnetic forces are strongest.
electrostatic force
attraction or repulsion of particles or objects because of their electric charge.
Force diagram
A force diagram is a picture of the object that you are studying and arrows pointing in the direction of the forces that effect your object, possibly with values in Newtons.
Balanced forces
Balance forces are two forces acting in opposite directions on an object, and equal in size. Anytime there is a balanced force on an abject, the object stays still or continues moving continues to move at the same speed and in the same direction.
Force Field
A force field is a map of the force felt over a particular area of space
Gradient
an increase or decrease in the magnitude of a property (e.g. temperature, pressure, or concentration) observed in passing from one point or moment to another.
Newton
the SI unit of force. It is equal to the force that would give a mass of one kilogram an acceleration of one metre per second per second, and is equivalent to 100,000 dynes.
reaction time
The interval of time between application of a stimulus and detection of a response.
repel
(of a magnetic pole or electric field) force (something similarly magnetized or charged) away from itself.
s.i units
The seven SI base units and the interdependency of their definitions. Clockwise from top: kelvin (temperature), second (time), metre (length), kilogram (mass), candela (luminous intensity), mole (amount of substance) and ampere (electric current).
